Without the continuing generous donations of time and supplies from our local veterinarians, MARS’ operating costs would be prohibitive. From examining songbirds, to pinning the wings of eagles and owls, our Comox Valley vets come through for wildlife.
Stacey Gastis, co-owner of Sunrise Veterinary Clinic, in Comox, is our registered vet on our permits. He goes out of his way to bring the wildlife in our care back to health. He is always willing to fit urgent cases into his schedule and does everything possible to save them. *Stacey is shown here pinning the wing of a Barred Owl.
Van Isle Veterinary Hospital, in Courtenay, has amazing and caring staff, always ready to come to the aid of local wildlife, when needed. *An operation to pin a Turkey Vulture’s wing is shown.
“Dr. Joan” of Shamrock Veterinary Clinic has a passion for helping our feathered patients and can be counted on to use her bird expertise to help MARS whenever we call.
The wonderful staff at Puntledge Veterinary Clinic is always there to help MARS, whether it’s by selling raffle tickets or squeezing in a patient for an x-ray.
There are a number of businesses and artists that have been making contributions to MARS and they often make a big difference to our organization, with donations and other types of involvement.
Steve McKenna of Bayside CCTV has worked hard to install the flight pen and security cameras at MARS. He has had to deal with many challenges, from antiquated power systems to various construction issues. Through it all he has kept his sense of humour and has done a wonderful job! He even donated back $1,000 of his fee!
The Scotiabank in Comox has been supporting MARS since late 2012 by selling coffee from Royston Roasting Company. MARS receives the profits and the Scotiabank matches them. *Photo shown is Reg with Kate Dyck, Financial Advisor, who was elected to pose for a promo shot during a fundraising event the bank held in December, 2012. Everyone else was too shy. They’re a lovely bunch, but bashful!
The Campbell River Bald Eagle Festival (EagleFest) has been a MARS hosted event since 2005 and each year there is a theme for presentations and speakers. We also have displays from the people and organizations among us that care enough to make a difference for individual wildlife or to help preserve their habitat. There are programs, information and activities for children of all ages, from toddlers to seniors. EagleFest is a chance to discover wildlife viewing and appreciation of our eagle neighbors, how to live with them in THEIR territories and to learn about who is doing what for wildlife in your neighborhood. Thank you to our many EagleFest sponsors, most of whom have contributed for years – we couldn’t do it without your support!
Photo Tech Foto Source has been an EagleFest photo contest sponsor for several years, donating their photo printing expertise, time and effort into providing us with the matted photos for the contest, organizing the entire venture. They also supply the great prizes for the winners!
Our local Eagle Radio Station has been sponsoring EagleFest by donating advertising for the event. Every year it grows bigger and more successful and much of that is due to the great people at the Eagle!
BC Hydro has been a major sponsor of EagleFest for a number of years, allowing us to provide funding for speakers and other costs associated with the event, such as facility rental. Their generosity has in the last couple of years has also meant that funds were left over to use for wildlife care.
