MARS is hosting our first Wildlife Festival, March 17th from 10 am to 2 pm at the Merville Hall. Admission is $5 per person or $10 per family.
Our theme will be “North Island Wildlife” Come and meet some of our MARS family and learn about the animals that come through our centre, what causes their injuries and how we can protect them. Gary Allan will be there with his wolf, Tundra, arriving at noon. She is such a beautiful animal and Gary is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to wolves.
We have some excellent guest speakers. There will be several interesting and educational displays and people available to answer any questions you may have. We will be having tours over at the MARS site also. Have you ever been up close and personal with a raptor? Here’s your chance. Bird handlers will be on site with live raptors. Our Mascot “Phoenix” the eagle will be there too.
Food and the ever popular MARS bake table as well as MARS merchandise will be available.
You will have a chance to join the Flight Club and help us build the flight pen for recovering raptors. A donation of $100 makes you a member and you will receive a certificate suitable for framing, for yourself, a friend or loved one. Any donation is welcome.
A local artist who is generously doing her own fundraiser for MARS by painting a picture a day during the month of March and then selling them with half the proceeds going to MARS, will be doing one of her paintings at the festival.
We have broken ground on the Visitors Centre and the group who are designing the indoor displays will give you a sneak peek at what they have been up to and what to expect.
There will be a “Kids Zone” with various activities along with face Painting, We are having a children’s art contest. If you are 12 years of age and under, put your artistic side to work and draw, paint or colour us a picture that you make, drop it off at MARS with your name, age and phone number on or before March 15th. The winner will be announced at the start of the festival and will receive a prize.
